“IMEC is a brilliant idea, Greece is very keen to be part of it” – Symeon Tsomokos

Speaking at the Firstpost Ideas Pod at the Raisina Dialogue 2025, Tristan Aureau, Head of the Policy Planning Department at France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Symeon Tsomokos, Founder and President of Greece’s Delphi Economic Forum, discussed how new maritime cooperation frameworks like the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) can enhance trade flows from the Indo-Pacific to the Mediterranean.

When asked about France’s role in Indo-Pacific-Mediterranean cooperation, Aureau said the India-France partnership is fruitful and see see IMEC as a way to connect Marseille to Mumbai. He said this will increase trade between India and the EU as a whole.

On how Greece plans to leverage the corridor, Tsomokos said, “IMEC is a brilliant idea… Greece is very keen to be part of IMEC.”

Regarding disruptions in the Red Sea and whether the new corridor could be an alternative to the Suez Canal, Aureau stated, “I actually thing it would be a good alternative… Now is the time to foster ties with partners.”
