Major Wildfire Erupts on Lefkada, Triggering Evacuation of Nearby Settlement

A significant wildfire has ignited in a forested region south of Agios Nikitas on Lefkada, leading to the evacuation of a neighboring settlement.

With the fire advancing dangerously close to Agios Nikitas, authorities activated the 112 emergency alert system just before 6 p.m., issuing a directive: “If you are in the Agios Nikitas area, evacuate toward Lefkada. Follow official instructions.”

The fire department reports no damage or direct threats to residences at this time.

Efforts to contain the blaze involve 34 firefighters, 10 vehicles, and a helicopter. A 6:40 p.m. update from the fire department noted that multiple scattered fire fronts, combined with strong winds, are complicating firefighting operations in the area.
