The Sydney University Greek Society (SUGS) has ushered in its 2025-26 committee, aiming to infuse its upcoming term with a renewed focus on culture and intellectual engagement.

The election took place during the society’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, March 12, at the Susan Wakil Building, which attracted roughly 50 members.

Newly elected President Argyri Kallos, speaking on behalf of the incoming team, expressed enthusiasm for building on the legacy of past committees. “We want to keep the fun spirit that SUGS is known for alive while strongly emphasizing the promotion of Hellenic culture and intellectual ties to the Greek Australian community,” Kallos said.

Kallos, who previously served as a First Year Representative and Modern Greek Department Liaison, outlined key goals for the year ahead. “We’re eager to encourage the study of Greek and highlight historical and contemporary issues that matter to students and the broader community,” he explained. He also emphasized strengthening “solidarity and pride” in the society’s Hellenic identity and beyond.

Collaboration is another cornerstone of the new committee’s vision. “Beyond hosting our high-quality events, we’re committed to partnering with the Department of Modern Greek and Byzantine Studies at USYD, other student groups, and the wider Greek community,” Kallos noted. These efforts aim to expand the society’s reach and enrich its initiatives.
