ATHENS (GCT) – Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Sunday, March 30, according to two Greek sources who spoke to Reuters on Wednesday.

The discussions are expected to cover a broad range of topics, one source noted. The leaders previously met in Israel in 2023.

Greece has taken a balanced stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, condemning the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, while urging an end to the Gaza conflict and advocating for adherence to ceasefire agreements. The Greek government has emphasized the importance of ensuring a steady and unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid throughout Gaza, warning that the displacement of Palestinians could destabilize the region. Greek hospitals have also welcomed children from Gaza requiring medical treatment.

During Sunday’s meeting, the leaders are anticipated to address the ongoing war, foreign policy matters, and bilateral ties. A key focus may include the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), a subsea power cable project led by Greece’s power grid operator IPTO. The initiative aims to connect Europe’s transmission networks to Cyprus and eventually extend to Israel via the Mediterranean Sea.
