Archbishop Elpidophoros: Participation Brings Courage and Hope at New York’s March 25th Parade

The Greek diaspora in New York celebrated the March 25th Greek Independence Day with a vibrant parade along Fifth Avenue, attended by prominent figures from the community and beyond.

This year’s grand marshal, Vangelis Marinakis, led the procession, which drew widespread participation under clear skies on March 30, 2025.

His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, a key figure at the event, emphasised the unifying power of the occasion. “When the Church marches, all of Hellenism marches with it,” he declared. “Our participation gives us courage, it gives us hope. Hellenism is alive and thriving far beyond the borders of Greece.” Reflecting on U.S.-Greek relations, he praised President Trump, stating, “He loves Greece and respects our culture. Our bonds will remain unshaken.”

Meanwhile, back in Greece, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Patras spoke to MEGA television, echoing a similar sentiment. “Greece is everywhere,” he said. “Wherever there are Greeks, there is Greece. We are all united. This is the land of culture, the cradle of democracy.”

The parade, a vivid display of Greek pride, underscored the enduring spirit of Hellenism, connecting the diaspora with their homeland on this historic day of remembrance.
