According to Egypt Today, Egyptian Vice Admiral and Navy Commander Ashraf Ibrahim Atwa Megahed held a meeting on Sunday in Cairo with Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras, who is leading a Greek naval delegation currently visiting Alexandria.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Defense, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral naval cooperation.
During the visit, the Greek delegation was given a tour of several Egyptian naval units and received briefings on the sophisticated training systems and weaponry in use.
They also visited the Alexandria Shipyard Company, one of the Middle East’s largest shipbuilding and maintenance facilities.
The visit follows the joint “Medusa-13” military exercise held in Greece in December 2024. The exercise brought together forces from Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, France, and Saudi Arabia, and included observers from Italy, Bahrain, Rwanda, Bulgaria, and Morocco.
The large-scale drill featured a range of training scenarios, including coordinated naval and aerial combat simulations, unconventional warfare tactics, and live-fire exercises. The Egyptian Ministry of Defense highlighted the event as evidence of the high level of coordination and skill among the participating forces.
