Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks and his wife, actress and producer Rita Wilson, attended Palm Sunday services at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles yesterday, continuing their long-standing tradition of participating in Orthodox Holy Week observances.

The couple, who are well-known members of the Greek Orthodox Church, joined worshippers at the historic cathedral on April 13, marking the beginning of Holy Week.

Hanks and Wilson have been regular attendees at Saint Sophia for years, often seen participating in major religious services, including Good Friday and Easter. In past years, they have taken part in the Good Friday procession, carrying the Epitaphios - an honor traditionally reserved for devout and active members of the congregation.

Sources within the cathedral community noted that both Hanks and Rita Wilson are not only regular parishioners but also supporters of the church’s broader mission. Hanks has contributed to the cathedral’s cultural and community centre, the Huffington Center, which hosts religious, educational, and cultural events.

The presence of the Hollywood power couple once again drew attention to the vibrant Greek Orthodox community in Los Angeles and highlighted the significance of faith and tradition in their personal lives.

No public statements were made by Hanks or Wilson following the service, but fellow parishioners described their participation as respectful, devout, and consistent with their past involvement in the church.

Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral, located at 1324 South Normandie Avenue in Los Angeles, California, is a striking Byzantine-style church built in 1952.
