Athens, Greece — In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens, head of the Church of Greece, expressed strong support for former U.S. President Donald Trump, calling his election victory “a force for good in the world.”
The archbishop, speaking through a translator at his office in Athens, commended Trump’s vision for economic and cultural reform, but also issued a word of caution regarding rising geopolitical tensions.
“The election of President Trump was a positive development,” said Ieronymos. “We need change, such as the reforms he is trying to implement—reforms that must be understood. For example, the U.S.-China relationship is shifting alongside economic instability, which could lead to conflict. Europe is preparing for such a scenario.”
The interview took place during Holy Week, a particularly sacred time for Orthodox Christians. Notably, this year Easter Sunday falls on the same day for both the Orthodox and Catholic churches.
The archbishop also voiced concern about inflation and its impact on young people and families, urging leaders to prioritize the future of the next generation.
“Rising prices are burdening families, and life is becoming harder. My message here is that we must focus our attention on the younger generations.”
Archbishop Ieronymos II oversees one of the largest and most influential bodies of the Eastern Orthodox Church, with more than 100 bishops, 8,500 priests, and over 15 million adherents in Greece and abroad. The wider Orthodox Christian community numbers over 300 million globally, making it the second-largest Christian communion after the Catholic Church.
