A 59-year-old Greek man, born in Georgia, faces espionage charges after allegedly photographing and videotaping military activities at the strategic port of Alexandroupolis, a key NATO logistics hub in northeastern Greece. The port supports US and NATO operations, facilitating equipment and personnel transfers to Ukraine and eastern European NATO allies.

Arrested on 29 April in a joint operation by Greek police and the National Intelligence Service, the suspect is accused of sending recordings to an unnamed individual via an encrypted messaging app, allegedly acting on their behalf. Authorities are investigating possible links to Russian security services through a contact in Lithuania, according to state television citing law enforcement.

The man's lawyer argued in court that no classified information was shared, noting that similar images of NATO operations had already been widely published in the media. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, denied all charges during a preliminary hearing before a magistrate in Alexandroupolis on Friday. He has been detained pending trial, with no trial date set.
