Haidari Murder: Man Admits to Stabbing Mother to Death

In a shocking incident in Haidari, a suburb of Athens, a 50-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 84-year-old mother to death in their shared apartment.

The elderly woman, who suffered from health issues including mobility problems and dementia, was found with a fatal knife wound to the neck.

According to authorities, the suspect contacted police on Monday morning, confessing to the killing. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered the victim lifeless on her bed, with a kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon. The man was promptly arrested and is expected to face questioning by investigative authorities. The exact time of the crime remains unclear, as does whether the suspect reported the incident immediately.

Neighbours, speaking to Greek broadcaster Mega, described the suspect as unemployed and without a family of his own. He had moved into his mother’s home in recent years to care for her due to her deteriorating health. The elderly woman had recently been discharged from a hospital prior to the incident.

Residents noted that there were no audible disputes or signs of tension between the mother and son, painting a picture of a seemingly calm household.

The victim is survived by another son, who lives elsewhere with his partner and was informed of the tragedy by authorities.
