48-Hour Weather Alert for Greece: Rain and Storms Expected This Weekend

Meteorologist Thodoris Kolidas has issued a warning about unstable weather conditions expected to sweep across Greece on Friday and Saturday, bringing rain and thunderstorms to several regions.

According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY), the stormy weather will primarily affect western, central, and southern mainland areas, with conditions expected to improve by Sunday.

Friday Forecast

On Friday, cloudy skies with occasional heavy rain and sporadic thunderstorms are forecast for eastern mainland Greece, Evia, the Sporades, the Cyclades, Crete, the eastern Aegean islands, and the Dodecanese. Western regions are expected to see gradual improvement by the afternoon. Winds will blow from northern directions at 4 to 6 Beaufort, reaching up to 7 Beaufort locally in the Ionian Sea. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly.

Saturday Forecast

On Saturday, eastern Sterea, Evia, eastern Thessaly, the Sporades, central Macedonia, the Cyclades, Crete, and the Dodecanese will experience cloudy conditions with local showers and thunderstorms, persisting into the late afternoon in most areas. Central Macedonia and Crete may see continued stormy weather into the night. Elsewhere, partly cloudy skies are expected, with temporary increases in cloud cover during midday and afternoon hours, bringing localized rain and isolated thunderstorms, particularly in western and northern mainland areas. Winds will remain northerly to northeasterly, at 4 to 6 Beaufort, and up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged.
