Greek Basket League Finals to Resume with Owners Barred from Opposing Arenas

The Greek Basket League Finals will resume following productive talks between Deputy Sports Minister Giannis Vroutsis and the owners of Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens and Olympiacos Piraeus. A key condition of the agreement is that team owners will not attend games in each other’s arenas, as reported by ERT.

After a tumultuous period, the breakthrough came after separate meetings with Panathinaikos president Dimitris Giannakopoulos and Olympiacos co-owners, the Angelopoulos brothers. The agreement ensures the continuation of the Stoiximan GBL Finals, with Game 3 scheduled for Friday, June 6, at 20:00 CEST at OAKA, Game 4 on Sunday, June 8, at 20:00 CEST at the Peace and Friendship Stadium, and, if needed, Game 5 on Tuesday, June 10, at OAKA.

“The government is committed to ensuring the league continues and is completed. We’ve taken steps to prevent a repeat of recent issues,” the Angelopoulos brothers stated, noting that while tensions arose, the discussions were constructive.

Giannakopoulos, speaking after his meeting with Vroutsis, expressed optimism: “It was a very positive meeting. The Minister proposed a fair solution, and the title should be decided on the court.”
