In a large-scale road safety operation conducted between June 12 and 14, 2025, the Attica Traffic Police confirmed more than 1,200 traffic violations across the greater Athens area.
The coordinated effort, led by the Traffic Accident Prevention and Control Teams (OEPTA), was part of a wider strategy to curb dangerous driving behaviours such as speeding, failure to wear seat belts, and the use of mobile phones while driving.
According to an official statement by the Hellenic Police, officers conducted 4,270 vehicle checks along major traffic arteries, including Athens-Sounion Road, NATO Avenue, and Syngrou Avenue. A total of 1,222 traffic offences were recorded during the operation.
Authorities emphasised that such inspections are part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related accidents. The Hellenic Police also noted that similar targeted checks will continue in high-risk areas throughout Attica.
The operation reflects the Greek authorities' intensified commitment to enforcing traffic laws and tackling what officials have described as “increased and dangerous lawlessness” on the roads.
