A severe collision between two OASA public buses occurred on Karamanli Avenue near Voula’s A’ Plaz, in the direction of Sounio, resulting in over 30 injuries, including 16 children. The incident took place at 11:30 AM, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area.
Details of the Crash
Preliminary reports indicate that one bus rear-ended the other, which was traveling ahead. Both buses were carrying mostly young passengers heading to nearby beaches, with one bus destined for Varkiza and the other for Saronida. The cause of the accident is under investigation by authorities, with police and emergency services quickly responding at the scene.
Injuries and Medical Response
Among the 32 reported injuries, three individuals— including a woman and likely one of the bus drivers, aged 38— are in serious condition but not intubated. Twelve children, reported to be in stable condition, were transferred to Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital, while four others are expected to follow. Three adults were taken to G. Gennimatas Hospital, and the remaining injured were transported to Voula’s Asklepieio Hospital.
EKAB’s rapid response teams, including ambulances, mobile units, and motorcycles, arrived promptly to provide medical assistance.
Traffic Disruptions
The collision has caused significant traffic delays on Konstantinou Karamanli Avenue, starting from Voula’s A’ Plaz toward Sounio. Authorities are working to manage the situation, and drivers are advised to avoid the area.
