Ongoing Search for Missing 61-Year-Old Spearfisherman off Karpathos Coast

The search for a 61-year-old local man, missing since Wednesday evening, July 23, remains fruitless. He was last seen spearfishing in the sea area off Potali Beach, northwest of Karpathos.

According to the Karpathos and Kasos Coast Guard Authorities, the man did not return, and his family promptly notified authorities.Under the coordination of the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED) of the Coast Guard, an extensive search operation was launched in the maritime and coastal zones of the area.

The search involves one patrol vessel (PLS) and one rescue boat (N/G) of the Coast Guard, four private boats, and two private divers. On land, a Coast Guard patrol vehicle is deployed, with additional support from a SUPER PUMA helicopter of the Hellenic Air Force.Despite hours of coordinated efforts, no results have been yielded so far, and the search continues.
