Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, during which the two leaders discussed a range of regional and bilateral matters.
The discussion focused on ongoing developments in Gaza and Libya, with both sides expressing concern over regional instability. They underscored the need for continued cooperation on migration management and border security.
Mitsotakis and el-Sisi also emphasized the importance of close coordination regarding maritime zones in the eastern Mediterranean — a matter viewed by both nations as vital to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
A significant portion of the conversation centered on the Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine of Sinai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. The leaders reviewed the progress of ongoing bilateral discussions related to the monastery and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to reaching an agreement in the near future.
The call reflects the deepening strategic partnership between Greece and Egypt, particularly on matters of religious, cultural, and geopolitical importance.
