A 32-year-old Algerian mother, accused of murdering her three-year-old daughter Jenna, has been ordered into pretrial detention after testifying before an investigating judge in Paleo Faliro, with the prosecutor's agreement.
Represented by lawyers Evita Varela and George Kriemmadis, the mother denied the charges, claiming the incident was accidental. She stated that Jenna fell and was injured in the bathroom while she briefly stepped away to get water. Upon finding the child unconscious, she attempted to revive her but panicked when Jenna lost consciousness again, believing she was dead. “I thought to go to the sea. It was a mistake, and I regret it, but she was already dead,” she reportedly said.
The mother further testified that she took a tram to Paleo Faliro, visited a kiosk, brought her children to a playground, and then went into the sea, leaving Jenna behind. She admitted she couldn’t bear to look back at her daughter.
The defense plans to appoint a technical advisor and has requested an independent forensic examination to determine whether Jenna’s injuries occurred before or after death. The mother firmly denied any prior abuse of her child.
