Three Migrant Rescue Operations in Gavdos and Kalamata: 165 People Saved in 24 Hours

In the past 24 hours, Greek authorities have conducted three rescue operations in the southern Aegean and Ionian regions, resulting in the safe recovery of 165 migrants.

Two separate incidents occurred in the sea area south of Gavdos, where 58 and 68 individuals were found traveling in dinghies. In the first case, the migrants were rescued by a Maltese-flagged tanker and, with assistance from a Coast Guard vessel, were safely brought to the port of Gavdos. In the second incident, the rescue involved both a Coast Guard vessel and a FRONTEX team.

Later last night, approximately 39 people were located in a dinghy 58 nautical miles south of Kalamata and were also rescued.

Greek authorities continue to monitor migratory routes closely to ensure the safety of those attempting the perilous journey across the sea.
