Outrage in Crete as Taxi Driver Leaves Family Stranded for Tourists

A mother of three young children has filed a legal complaint against a taxi driver in Heraklion, Crete, after he allegedly forced her and her children out of his vehicle to pick up tourists waiting with their luggage.

The incident occurred when the woman and her three children, aged 6, 9, and 12, boarded a taxi from a central location in Heraklion. A few kilometres into the journey, the driver reportedly stopped and asked them to disembark, prioritising a group of tourists who were waiting nearby. The mother described the location as dark and isolated, leaving her children terrified. She also informed the driver that her phone was out of battery, preventing her from calling another taxi, and no other vehicles were passing by at the time.

Outraged by the incident, the mother noted the taxi’s license plate number and has since taken legal action against the driver. The case has sparked discussions about passenger rights and the treatment of locals versus tourists in Crete’s busy tourism season.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and the driver could face consequences for his actions.
