Greek PM Unveils School Upgrades at Zografou High School, Signals Expansion of Renovation Program

Zografou, Greece – August 25, 2025, 9:40 PM EEST
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the 3rd High School of Zografou today, where renovations are underway as part of the "Marietta Giannakou" programme. The initiative has upgraded 431 public schools across Greece, with plans for further expansion and increased funding.

During his visit, Mitsotakis stated, “By early September, 431 schools will be renovated. This successful programme will not only continue but see enhanced funding. Modernized schools replace aging infrastructure, and upgraded courtyards create open spaces where children can play, exercise, and engage creatively after hours, away from digital screens.” He also noted that interactive whiteboards are now installed in nearly all public school classrooms.

Education Minister Sofia Zacharaki, who joined the Prime Minister, expressed gratitude to those involved and said, “Our schools are ready for the new academic year, with many renovated to provide better learning environments. With increased teacher appointments and ongoing infrastructure improvements, we are committed to advancing Greek public education annually.”

The "Marietta Giannakou" programme continues to prioritize modern, community-focused schools, enhancing both education and local engagement.
