A new government initiative, supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will offer career training for refugees and migrants holding residence permits to help them enter the Greek labour market, officials announced on Tuesday.
Funded by the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, the scheme targets key sectors of the economy such as agriculture, construction and tourism, while also introducing tailored programmes for women to improve both employment opportunities and social inclusion.
The IOM will be responsible for implementing the scheme in close cooperation with the Ministry of Migration and Asylum.
Deputy Minister for Migration & Asylum, Sevi Voloudaki, highlighted the importance of the initiative, noting: “This programme provides migrants with the opportunity to integrate smoothly into Greek society, gaining practical skills and employment prospects. In collaboration with the private sector, it builds a bridge between education and work, strengthens social cohesion, and contributes to both local and national development.”
The joint ministerial decision was signed by Alternate National Economy & Finance Minister Nikolaos Papathanasis, Minister for Labour & Social Insurance Niki Kerameus, Deputy Minister Anna Efthymiou and Deputy Minister Voloudaki.
