Pedestrian Killed by Suburban Train at Unguarded Crossing in Athens

A tragic accident occurred on Konstantinoupoleos Street in Athens on Thursday, when a man was struck and killed by a suburban railway train at the intersection with Achilleos Street.

According to MEGA, the crossing at the site is unguarded, and authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

The train, operated by Hellenic Train, had departed from Piraeus and was en route to Kiato when the collision happened. Emergency services rushed to the scene, with six firefighters and two fire engines participating in the recovery operation, alongside police and paramedics.

Officials described the scene as particularly graphic, noting the severity of the victim’s injuries.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
