Six Greek vessels carrying 26 Greek activists and 20 international supporters set sail on Friday from the Aegean Sea to join the Global Sumud Flotilla, an international effort aimed at challenging Israel’s blockade on Gaza.

The International Committee to Break the Israeli Siege of Gaza confirmed the departure on the social media platform X, noting that two additional vessels are expected to appear soon on the international tracking system.
Earlier this week, ships departing from Spain, Tunisia, and Libya arrived near southern Sicily, joining Italian vessels already in the area, according to organizers of the flotilla. According to the official flotilla tracker, over 40 vessels are now gathered in southern Sicily, with the six Greek boats en route, bringing the total number of ships heading toward Gaza to 50.
The flotilla plans to set sail together from a staging area near Malta, marking the largest convoy of its kind. Its mission is to challenge the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, where months of Israeli closures have contributed to famine-like conditions.
