Passengers traveling through Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” on Friday faced delays of 30 to 40 minutes, with disruptions expected to increase throughout the day.
AEGEAN announced that Greece’s Air Traffic Control has reduced the number of arrivals permitted at the country’s busiest airport by about 25% since Thursday, September 25.
The airline explained that the restriction has already caused morning delays, which are compounding as aircraft rotations to and from Athens build up.
“We apologize and assure our passengers that every effort is being made to mitigate the effects of these restrictions and to minimize disruption to their travel plans,” AEGEAN said in a statement.
The airline advised travelers to remain updated on their flight status and allow extra time when traveling through Athens.
