Kyllini Launches a New Era with Seaplanes

Kyllini is officially entering Greece’s seaplane network, marking a new chapter for maritime aviation and regional connectivity. The destination has received final approval from the relevant authorities to operate its waterway, paving the way for regular seaplane services.

With this development, Kyllini becomes a strategic gateway to the Ionian Islands and a key hub linking Alimos, Kalamata, Eratini, and Patras. Its inclusion on the seaplane map strengthens its role as a vital station within the Hellenic Seaplanes network.

In close cooperation with the Municipality of Kyllini–Andravida, Mayor Ioannis Lentzas, and the Kyllini Seaplanes company, led by President Konstantinos Chantzis, the necessary land infrastructure has already been completed. A floating pier has been installed, and preparations are underway for the first flights to take off.

In the coming weeks, Hellenic Seaplanes plans to conduct pilot familiarization flights to Kyllini, similar to those recently held in Kalamata. These flights will introduce the residents of Ilia to the new mode of transport and its potential.

Announcing the approval of the Kyllini Waterway, Hellenic Seaplanes President and CEO Nikolas Charalambous stated:

“Kyllini officially joins our network, offering seaplanes direct access to the Ionian Sea and the Peloponnese. The approval of this infrastructure is another decisive step toward launching regular routes that bring travelers closer together and offer unique travel experiences. In collaboration with local communities and stakeholders, we are dynamically moving forward with our vision of a fully functional waterway network across Greece.”

Mayor Lentzas described the development as a milestone for the region:

“The approval of the Kyllini Waterway creates new opportunities for tourism growth, boosts the region’s outward orientation, and connects Kyllini more directly with the Ionian Islands and the Peloponnese. The Municipality will continue to actively support new investments and projects that contribute to local development.”

Konstantinos Chantzis, President of the Municipal Port Fund of Kyllini, added:

“The operation of the Kyllini waterway is a strategic addition to our port, opening up new prospects for mobility and tourism.”

Hellenic Seaplanes continues to steadily expand its national waterway network, aiming to create a fully integrated system of routes that will transform travel across Greece.
