Greece Welcomes Nearly 25 Million Visitors in First Eight Months of 2025, Says Central Bank

Nearly 25 million tourists travelled to Greece between January and August 2025, according to new figures released by the Bank of Greece on Wednesday, marking a 4.1% increase compared to the same period last year.

Inbound traveller numbers reached 24.9 million, up from 24.8 million in 2024. The data shows continued momentum for the country’s tourism sector, with air arrivals up 4.2% and land border arrivals up 4.8%.

Visitors from EU member states accounted for 15.2 million travellers, a modest 0.2% rise year-on-year, while arrivals from non-EU countries surged by 10.4%, reaching 10.6 million. Within the EU, arrivals from Eurozone countries increased by 3.8%, while those from non-Eurozone EU states grew by 6.9%.

Tourism revenue also saw a significant boost, with travel receipts rising 12% to reach €16.7 billion during the eight-month period. This growth was driven by an increase in spending from both EU27 residents (+9.4%), totalling €9.18 billion, and non-EU visitors (+14.9%), who generated €6.71 billion.

More specifically, receipts from Eurozone travellers climbed 7.2% to €7.11 billion, while income from non-Eurozone EU visitors jumped 17.4% to €2.07 billion.

The figures underscore the continuing strength of Greece’s tourism sector — a vital pillar of the national economy — and suggest another strong year for the industry as the country looks ahead to the final months of 2025.
