George Baldock’s Legacy Lives On Through £4 Million Estate for His Baby Son

Former Premier League and Greece international footballer George Baldock left a £4 million (€4.7 million) fortune to his baby son after tragically drowning in a swimming pool in Athens last year at the age of 31, according to newly released probate documents.

The former Sheffield United defender was found dead at his home in Glyfada, a southern suburb of the Greek capital, in October 2024. His fiancée, Annabel Dignam, raised the alarm after being unable to reach him for several hours. Emergency responders later discovered Baldock in the communal pool of his residence.

An inquest in the UK determined that there were no traces of alcohol or drugs in his system and ruled his death as accidental.

Court documents show that Baldock’s estate was valued at £5.78 million (€6.7 million) before debts were settled, leaving a net estate of £4.09 million (€4.7 million). As Baldock died without a will, the entire inheritance will go to his son, Brody, to be managed by Dignam “for the use and benefit of minor Brody Baldock” until he reaches the age of 18.

Baldock had been due to fly back to England the day after his death to celebrate Brody’s first birthday.

In a heartfelt tribute, Annabel described Baldock as “the love of my life, my soulmate, the perfect dad to our beautiful boy,” adding, “You are here with me in Brody’s smile, giggle and infectious personality. My world will never be the same, but I will find a way for Brody. I promise.”

Baldock’s family also released a statement expressing their devastation, saying:

“George, you were the most special father, fiancé, son, brother, uncle, friend, teammate, and person. Your enthusiasm and infectious personality brought so much love to everyone fortunate enough to know you.”

Born in Buckinghamshire, Baldock qualified to represent Greece through his grandmother and went on to earn 12 international caps.

His sudden passing deeply shocked both the Greek and English football communities, with tributes pouring in from teammates, fans, and clubs across Europe.
