ATHENS – Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett arrived in Greece on Tuesday to begin filming her upcoming movie Sweetsick, with production set to take place in the scenic region of Messinia.
The Hollywood star was photographed at Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos,” where she maintained a low profile in a casual black tracksuit, leather jacket, and sneakers.
Blanchett is scheduled to stay in the Peloponnese from November 4 to 9, with principal photography centered in the coastal village of Kardamyli and nearby areas including Trachila and Petrouni.

Sweetsick, produced by Greek company Heretic and written by acclaimed British playwright Alice Birch, will feature extensive location shooting along the Messinian coastline. The film’s climactic scenes, described as a “catharsis and return to roots,” will unfold in the rugged Mani peninsula, supported by three vessels for maritime sequences.
Local authorities have announced temporary traffic adjustments along the provincial road between Agios Dimitrios and Trachila to accommodate the production.
Production bases have been established at the Kardamyli Kindergarten and Trachila Cultural Center, with equipment staging areas secured along the waterfront and in Old Kardamyli under strict security protocols.
