Athens, Greece – A 48-year-old woman has been found guilty of persistently stalking popular Greek singer Giannis Ploutarhos after the artist filed an official complaint with authorities. The defendant did not appear at Tuesday’s hearing.
The single-member misdemeanor court handed down an 18-month prison sentence. Despite the prosecutor’s recommendation for a reduced three-month term, the judge suspended the full penalty on the condition that the woman complies with two strict restrictions: she must remain at least 500 meters away from Giannis Ploutarhos at all times and is prohibited from any form of direct or indirect contact with him.
During the trial, Ploutarhos’ wife testified in support of her husband’s claims, revealing that the woman had recently appeared uninvited at one of his live performances, further escalating the family’s concerns.
The conviction comes after months of reported harassment, highlighting the growing issue of celebrity stalking in Greece.
