Miss Universe Contestant Falls Off Stage, Rushed to Hospital During Pageant [Video]

Miss Universe contestant falls off stage, rushed to hospital during pageant

Dr Gabrielle Henry, the Jamaican representative at this year’s Miss Universe pageant in Thailand, is recovering in hospital after a dramatic fall from the stage during the preliminary evening gown round on 19 November. The incident unfolded in front of a live audience in Nonthaburi, just north of Bangkok, and quickly spread across social media as clips of the fall were shared worldwide.

Miss Jamaica, a qualified medical doctor and advocate for eye-health awareness, stepped onto the runway in a striking orange evening gown and high heels. After posing confidently at the front of the stage, she continued her walk toward the left side. In a split second, she misjudged the edge and fell directly off the stage, prompting a wave of gasps and immediate concern from the crowd.

Footage shows members of the audience standing up as officials rushed to her aid. She was later carried out of the venue on a stretcher and taken to Paolo Rangsit Hospital, where she spent the night under medical supervision.

The Miss Universe Jamaica organisation later issued a statement confirming that Henry had not suffered life-threatening injuries, though doctors were continuing tests to ensure a full recovery. Pageant president Raúl Rocha, who visited her in hospital alongside her family, said that there were no broken bones and that she was in “good care.”

Before the fall, Henry had participated in the national costume and swimsuit rounds, sharing behind-the-scenes snapshots of her preparations on social media. The 28-year-old, who balances her medical career with philanthropy through the See Me Foundation, has been one of Jamaica’s most widely admired contestants for her intelligence, poise and advocacy work.

Her accident comes at a turbulent time for this year’s Miss Universe competition, which has faced a string of controversies in recent weeks, including the public reprimanding of Miss Mexico by a pageant executive and the sudden withdrawal of multiple judges citing concerns about transparency. Despite the wider issues, the focus overnight shifted almost entirely to Henry’s wellbeing, with messages of support pouring in from fellow contestants and fans around the world.

Whether she will be able to return to the competition in time for the final remains uncertain and will depend on further medical assessment. For now, her team has asked supporters to “stay positive and lift her in prayer” while she continues her recovery.
