Greek Coast Guard Conducts New Rescue Operation South of Gavdos

The Hellenic Coast Guard located two boats carrying dozens of migrants in the maritime area south of Gavdos.

In recent hours, coast guard authorities in southern Crete carried out a search and rescue operation, spotting two boats with numerous passengers on board.

According to the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Hellenic Coast Guard, a total of 70 migrants were rescued from two separate boats in the sea area south of Gavdos, as reported by ERT.

The rescued individuals are being transferred to the port of Paleochora and will subsequently be taken to the Exhibition Center in Agia, where the temporary reception facility operated by the Chania Municipality is located.
