Greek Coast Guard Strikes Blow to Drug Trafficking in Attica

The Greek Coast Guard has carried out a series of targeted operations against drug trafficking in Attica and at the port of Piraeus, leading to multiple arrests and significant seizures of narcotics over the past days.

According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, officers from the Security Office of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus, together with the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, arrested two Greek nationals aged 41 and 60 during a morning operation in the Kolonos area of Attica. Following lawful searches of their homes, assisted by the Piraeus Special Operations Unit and a drug-detection dog, authorities seized more than 1.6 kilograms of raw cannabis, a small quantity of suspected cocaine weighing 11.1 grams, €1,590 in cash, mobile phones, a precision scale, and packaging materials.

A few days earlier, in the morning hours of December 18, 2025, a second operation in Athens resulted in the arrest of one Greek and one foreign national for possession and trafficking of heroin. After discreet surveillance and checks with the assistance of a sniffer dog, officers confiscated a total of 7.3 grams of the наркотική substance.

Subsequently, on the afternoon of December 19, 2025, during preventive inspections aboard a passenger-vehicle ferry at the port of Piraeus, Coast Guard officers, again supported by a drug-detection dog, found two Greek nationals in possession of a total of 12.5 grams of cannabis.

The Central Port Authority of Piraeus is conducting the preliminary investigation into all cases, as authorities reaffirm their commitment to combating drug trafficking and enhancing security in the greater Athens area and Greece’s largest port.
