Three Men Turn Themselves In After Deadly Nightclub Assault

Three of the suspects accused in the fatal beating of a 30-year-old man in Patras have surrendered to police, authorities confirmed on Monday night.

Two brothers aged 36 and 39, along with a 29-year-old man, voluntarily presented themselves at the Patras Security Department shortly before the expiry of the flagrante delicto period. They are accused of the fatal assault on Kostas Vassilaris, who died from his injuries following a violent altercation at a nightclub in Patras in the early hours of Sunday.

The three men had been identified from the outset by local law enforcement authorities. According to police sources, all three had previously come to the attention of authorities. They are expected to be brought before the Patras Prosecutor on Tuesday, where formal charges will be filed. It is anticipated that they will then request time to prepare their defense before appearing before an investigating magistrate.

Police say a total of nine individuals are implicated in the case. Eight suspects have already been identified, including the three who surrendered, while efforts are ongoing to confirm the identity of a ninth individual. Arrest warrants for the remaining suspects are expected to be issued by Tuesday for charges including homicide and participation in a violent brawl resulting in death.

Meanwhile, the two owners of the nightclub where the fatal incident occurred were brought before the Misdemeanor Court under the expedited procedure earlier on Monday. They faced charges of giving false testimony, harbouring a criminal, and obstructing justice. Following the hearing, one owner was acquitted, while the second was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison. However, the convicted owner filed an appeal with suspensive effect and was released pending further proceedings.
