The trial of a former parliamentary police officer and his wife is set to begin on Wednesday, January 7, before the Athens Mixed Jury Court, in a case that shocked Greece when it came to light in December 2024.
The defendants, a 46-year-old former police officer who served at the Hellenic Parliament and his 35-year-old wife, also a former police officer, face a series of serious felony charges. The case concerns alleged sexual abuse of minors and extreme incidents of domestic violence against their underage children.
According to the case file, prosecutors describe repeated acts of physical abuse, including beatings with a baton, slaps, kicks, burns with a lighter, assaults with a belt, and continuous violence within the family environment. The file also includes references to sustained abuse against the children’s mother.
Central to the proceedings are the testimonies of the couple’s minor children, which authorities describe as particularly disturbing. Police sources have said investigators were “frozen” by the level of brutality described by the children regarding what allegedly took place inside the family home.
The 46-year-old defendant has denied all charges from the outset, maintaining that he committed none of the acts attributed to him. He claims the children were manipulated and attributes his wife’s allegations to what he describes as her serious psychological issues.
The 35-year-old mother, however, has stated that she lived under conditions of fear and coercion. She has described her husband as threatening her and their children with death, claiming she was unable to escape the situation due to intimidation and control.
Both defendants were officially dismissed from the Hellenic Police in October 2025 following a decision by the police disciplinary council. At the time, the former parliamentary police officer was already being held in pre-trial detention at Tripoli Prison, while his wife was also absent from the disciplinary hearing. Both were represented by their legal counsel.
The trial is expected to attract significant public attention due to the severity of the allegations and the defendants’ former roles within the police force.
