Greece Faces Ferry Cancellations and Major Travel Disruptions

Strong winds are causing major disruptions to ferry services across multiple sea regions in Greece, prompting cancellations on key routes. According to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, winds are reaching up to 8 Beaufort, with localized gusts potentially hitting 9, creating stormy conditions in both the Aegean and Ionian Seas.

The Hellenic Coast Guard reported that morning departures from the port of Piraeus to the Cyclades, as well as to islands in the Eastern and Northern Aegean, were cancelled. In addition, the afternoon sailing of the Blue Star Chios, which serves Santorini, Anafi, Heraklion, Sitia, Kasos, Karpathos, Diafani, Halki, and Rhodes, has also been called off.

For the Saronic Islands, services are operating only with conventional vessels. From Rafina, routes to Marmari continue as scheduled, while departures to Andros, Tinos, and Mykonos remain suspended. Morning departures from the port of Lavrio were also cancelled.

Ferry lines in the western mainland are affected as well, with services on the Igoumenitsa–Lefkimmi–Corfu and Rio–Antirrio routes suspended due to adverse weather conditions.

Authorities are urging passengers to check with local port authorities and travel agencies before departure, as further cancellations or schedule changes may occur.
