Greek Police Dismantle Armed Robbery Gang Hitting Fuel Stations

Greek police have dismantled a criminal gang responsible for a series of armed robberies targeting fuel stations and mini markets across Attica, authorities announced.

Officers from the Western Attica Subdirectorate for Crime Investigation and Detection carried out a coordinated police operation on Wednesday, January 14, leading to the arrest of five members of the organisation — four men and one woman aged 58, 46, 33, 32 and 31. An additional man has been identified and included in the case file.

The suspects face charges, on a case-by-case basis, of forming a criminal organisation, committing armed robberies as accomplices and repeatedly, aiding and abetting robbery, and violating Greece’s weapons legislation.

According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), the gang began its criminal activity in August 2025, carrying out armed robberies at fuel stations and mini markets in areas including Petroupoli, Ilion, Peristeri, Agioi Anargyroi, Kamatero, Metamorfosi, Agios Stefanos, central Athens and Palaio Psychiko.

Investigators said the 46-year-old suspect, sometimes acting alone and at other times with the 32-year-old, entered targeted businesses armed with a revolver and, in some cases, a knife. They threatened employees and stole cash from registers, workers’ mobile phones and store merchandise.

The perpetrators mainly carried out the robberies during late-night and early-morning hours, wearing full-face hoods and gloves to avoid identification. Police noted their brazenness, highlighting an incident in which they stabbed a store employee in the abdomen with a knife.

The remaining three members of the group provided logistical support by transporting the main perpetrators to and from the crime scenes using their own vehicles and acting as getaway drivers after the robberies.

During searches conducted as part of the investigation, police seized a revolver used in the robberies, two knives, clothing worn during the attacks, two vehicles and three mobile phones.

Authorities have so far solved 12 cases of armed robbery linked to the gang, with total proceeds exceeding €8,960. Police also noted that two of the arrested suspects have previously come to the attention of authorities for similar offences.

All those arrested have been brought before the competent public prosecutor.
