The Mixed Jury Court of Edessa sentenced a 35-year-old woman to life imprisonment for killing her 58-year-old partner and burying his body in the yard of their home in Leptokarya, Pieria.
The court found the defendant guilty of intentional homicide committed in a calm mental state and rejected all requests for mitigating circumstances. After delivering the verdict, judges ordered her immediate return to prison.
The woman committed the crime in September 2024, but authorities uncovered the case five months later. During that period, she denied any involvement and had reported her partner missing to the police. Investigators solved the case after she eventually led officers to the burial site in the courtyard of their home.
Police made the breakthrough in February of the following year, when the accused appeared again for questioning and gave contradictory statements, prompting investigators to piece together the circumstances of the killing.
During her defence, the 35-year-old denied intent to kill and claimed the death occurred during a heated argument. Her lawyers asked the court to reduce the charge to fatal bodily harm caused by negligence and requested diminished responsibility, citing her long-term substance use.
The court dismissed these claims, adopted the prosecutor’s recommendation, and convicted her of murder without recognising any mitigating factors.
