Greek Police Dismantle Major Criminal Organisation in Athens

Greek police have dismantled a criminal organization involved in fraud, arresting four individuals in the Agios Panteleimonas area of Athens on Thursday.

Officers from the DIAS motorcycle patrol unit arrested two men, aged 33 and 31, and two women, aged 38 and 24, on charges related to organized fraud and money laundering. During the operation, police seized €38,115 in cash and a large quantity of jewelry found in their possession.

According to the Hellenic Police, the Department for the Investigation and Detection of Crimes of Agios Panteleimonas filed charges against the suspects for forming a criminal organization, committing fraud, and laundering proceeds from criminal activity.

Police officers spotted a vehicle carrying the four suspects during a routine patrol and deemed its movements suspicious. They stopped the vehicle for inspection and conducted a thorough search of both the car and its occupants. Officers confiscated the cash and jewelry after the suspects failed to justify their possession.

Following their transfer to the Agios Panteleimonas police department, investigators linked the suspects to a fraud case carried out shortly before their arrest. Authorities said the 24-year-old woman entered a residence under the pretense of offering assistance to another woman, stole money from the home, and fled the scene.

Police have referred the suspects to the competent public prosecutor, while investigations continue to fully determine the extent of the group’s criminal activity.
