Paros is solidifying its position in the Canadian tourism market as the Cycladic island continues to receive international recognition for its high-quality travel offerings. The Municipality of Paros launched a diplomatic outreach campaign late last year, targeting countries with both high visitor spending and strong overnight stays.
The initiative included a series of online meetings with Canadian journalists and bloggers, following a successful meeting between the Chair of Paros’ Tourism Committee, Katerina Barbarigou, and Neil Swain, Business Development Advisor at the Canadian Embassy. The meeting took place during the Athens International Tourism & Culture Expo at Zappeion Megaron in Athens from December 8–10, 2025. Presentations are currently underway for selected Canadian media representatives, with familiarization trips to the island planned for spring.
The Canadian market attracts particular interest due to its traveler demographics, which range from 35 to 65 years old, including both English- and French-speaking visitors from Québec. Many retirees travel outside peak season, offering high spending potential. On average, Canadians spend about CAD 2,000 per trip abroad, with total travel expenditures reaching CAD 14.2 billion. They favor mid- to high-end accommodations and seek experiences in local gastronomy, culture, history, and nature—aligning closely with Paros’ tourism strategy. Their typical stay lasts 7–14 days, often in spring and autumn, helping extend the island’s tourism season.
Paros has steadily increased its appeal to luxury travelers over the past decade. Business Insider highlighted Paros as a top alternative for affluent visitors, combining beaches, picturesque villages, and nightlife without overcrowding. Similarly, Elegant Resorts described Paros as a luxurious Greek island blending modern lifestyle with traditional charm, offering scenic landscapes, charming rural villages, vibrant nightlife, and diverse beaches.
International accolades reinforce Paros’ reputation. Forbes recognized it as one of the best summer destinations globally in 2024. Conde Nast Traveller recently ranked Paros first on its popularity list for 2026, while Tripadvisor included it among the 25 top honeymoon destinations alongside Mykonos and Santorini in its Travellers' Choice Best of the Best awards.
Through targeted outreach and consistent recognition, Paros continues to attract high-income travelers seeking quality, luxury, and tranquility, distinguishing itself from other highly touristic Cycladic islands.
