Disappointing end for Maria Sakkari's run at the Australian Open
The top Greek tennis player suffered elimination in the second round of the year's first Grand Slam, falling victim to the outstanding Mirra Andreeva.
The Russian player, now firmly established among the elite of world tennis, prevailed in straight sets (6-0, 6-4), showing early on that she was in complete control of the match.
Dominant start and shock in the first set
The opening set turned into a monologue for Andreeva, who fully capitalized on Sakkari's errors, constantly pressuring her on serve and in baseline rallies.
The 6-0 score came quickly and accurately reflected the situation on court, leaving the Greek player with no room to respond.
She fought back, but it wasn't enough
In the second set, Sakkari appeared more competitive, raising her intensity and trying to impose her own game.
However, Andreeva's consistency and maturity proved decisive. The Russian extinguished every attempt at a comeback and closed out the set at 6-4.
