Greece Climbs to 11th in UEFA Rankings After Strong Week

Greece climbed back to 11th place in UEFA’s country rankings after a stellar week in European competitions, overtaking Poland. Olympiacos, PAOK, and Panathinaikos delivered results that secured vital points for the nation.

Olympiacos started the week with a 2-0 home win against Bayer Leverkusen on January 20, followed by PAOK’s 2-0 victory over Real Betis at Toumba Stadium. Panathinaikos added a draw with Ferencváros in Hungary, ensuring Greece earned additional UEFA coefficient points.

The country now holds 44,712 points, ahead of Poland’s 44,625 and closing the gap to 10th-placed Czech Republic at 46,275. Poland will not play next week, giving Greece the chance to extend its advantage further.

UEFA Ranking Implications

The improved ranking affects European competition access for Greek clubs:

  • 11th place (current):

    • Champion: Champions League playoffs (champions path)

    • Cup winner: Europa League playoffs

    • Second: 2nd qualifying round Champions League (non-champions path)

    • Third: 2nd qualifying round Europa League

    • Fourth: 2nd qualifying round Conference League

  • 10th place would grant the champion direct entry to the League Stage of the Champions League and slightly improved routes for other clubs.
