Russian Bombers Fly Over Baltic as U.S. Envoys Meet Putin

Moscow announced that Russian strategic bombers Tu-22M3 conducted a scheduled patrol over international waters in the Baltic Sea, accompanied by Su-35S and Su-30SM fighter jets, the Ministry of Defense reported on Telegram.

The patrol coincided with the arrival of U.S. special envoy Steve Whitkov and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. Their plane landed at Vnukovo Airport after traveling from Switzerland, where they attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, according to TASS and RIA Novosti.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky told the World Economic Forum on Thursday that a trilateral meeting between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia is imminent. He said that documents prepared in coordination with Washington are “almost, almost ready” and that the teams work nearly every day to finalize texts aimed at ending the war.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is negotiating with “absolute sincerity and determination” and expects Russia to show the same commitment to halt its aggression. He also acknowledged that his dialogue with Trump “was not simple,” but described their meeting before his speech at Davos as “positive.”
