Karpathos Named In World’s Top 10 Must-Visit Destinations

The Greek island of Karpathos ranks among the world’s top ten must-visit destinations for 2026, according to international travel site News18.com.

The website highlighted “the last remaining paradises” that remain authentic and unspoiled by mass tourism. Karpathos earned the 6th spot on the list, alongside destinations in Spain, Italy, Greenland, Georgia, India, Chile, and the Faroe Islands.

News18 praised Karpathos for preserving its authentic character and offering a rejuvenating experience. Visitors can explore wild beaches, dramatic mountain landscapes, and picturesque villages where local traditions remain alive, creating a rich variety of alternative travel experiences.

The municipality of Karpathos, with funding from the South Aegean Region, will implement two new projects to boost thematic tourism and enhance the visitor experience. The projects include creating new climbing areas and hiking trails.

Mayor Michalis Fellouzis said, “Our goal is to showcase Karpathos as a quality destination and implement projects to upgrade essential infrastructure and improve residents’ quality of life.”

Additionally, the municipality secured €2.8 million from the Ministry of Environment and Energy to install a permanent desalination plant. The facility will provide 2,000 cubic meters of water daily to Karpathos town and 300 cubic meters daily to the Aperi community, ensuring reliable year-round water supply.
