Greek Coast Guard Bust Cocaine Shipment in Patras Port

Greek Coast Guard officers seized large quantities of cocaine and cannabis during an inspection of a truck at the port of Patras and arrested two men, aged 49 and 41, in connection with the case.

According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, officers from the Central Port Authority of Patras conducted a targeted inspection on a truck driven by the 49-year-old suspect. The vehicle had unloaded at the southern port of Patras from a passenger-ferry vessel arriving from a port in Italy. Following an alert from the drug-detection dog “Mezcal,” officers discovered 20 plastic packages containing cocaine inside the driver’s cabin, with a total gross weight of 22 kilograms and 693 grams.

A subsequent search of the truck’s cargo area revealed 163 plastic packages of unprocessed hydroponically grown cannabis, weighing a total of 133 kilograms and 669 grams. Officers also found an additional 20 plastic packages of cocaine with a total gross weight of 21 kilograms and 942 grams.

Following further investigations, Coast Guard officers arrested the 41-year-old suspect in the Haidari area of Attica, where he had arrived by car to collect part of the narcotics.

Authorities later searched the home of the 49-year-old suspect in Chalkoutsi, Attica, where they seized a stun gun, a hunting knife with a 25-centimetre blade, 13 seals bearing the names of Greek and Bulgarian companies, and a laptop.

In a separate search at a business owned by the 41-year-old suspect in Athens, officers seized €5,700 in cash, 285 Turkish lira, a laptop, a mobile phone, three SIM cards, a precision scale, and a closed-circuit camera recording device.

The investigation remains ongoing.
