Flowers and Candles Laid at Toumba Stadium for PAOK Victims

Deep mourning grips Thessaloniki and the rest of Greece following the tragic death of seven PAOK supporters in a road accident in Romania.

From early in the day, PAOK fans and citizens of all ages gathered outside Toumba Stadium to honor the memory of the victims. Supporters laid PAOK scarves, flowers, and lit candles, creating a makeshift memorial as a sign of respect and grief.

PAOK head coach Razvan Lucescu described the incident as a devastating tragedy, stressing the emotional impact on the club’s extended family.
“This is a tragedy, a huge tragedy,” Lucescu said. “PAOK is something special. Everyone who supports PAOK considers themselves part of a large family. When something like this happens, the emotional impact is enormous.”

Lucescu emphasized that the pain remains overwhelming, particularly for the families of the victims. “We are talking about young people. It is heartbreaking. Our hearts are with their families,” he said, adding that support and unity remain essential during such moments of loss.

Scenes of profound sorrow unfolded inside Toumba Stadium as fans entered Gate 4, where a banner reading “Goodbye, brothers” hung in tribute to the fallen supporters.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., a large crowd gathered at the stadium holding flowers. Players, the coaching staff, and club officials joined supporters to pay tribute and mourn together.

The crowd later moved silently toward Gate 4, carrying lit lanterns beneath the banner that read “Goodbye, brothers,” creating a powerful moment of collective grief, unity, and remembrance.
