Greek Authorities Arrest Violanta Factory Owner Over Fire Tragedy

Greek Authorities arrested the owner of the Violanta factory and two additional company executives following the deadly fire at the factory in Trikala.

According to available information, prosecutors charged the factory owner with manslaughter by negligence, causing an explosion, arson by negligence, and causing bodily harm. Investigators continue to examine the responsibilities of company management in connection with the incident.

The tragedy unfolded in the early hours of Monday, shortly before 4:00 a.m., when a fire broke out and burned part of the factory’s wing. Shortly before the fire, a powerful explosion occurred in the basement of the factory’s main building, located on the Trikala–Karditsa national highway.

Emergency services responded immediately to the scene, while authorities launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the explosion and fire.
