Greek Mythology Board Game Official Gift for Global Diplomacy

A Greek educational board game, Greek Mythology, has become a cultural ambassador for Greece after the Greek Tourism Organization (EOT) selected it as an official gift abroad. Designed and produced entirely in Greece by young creators Katerina Kyriakidou and Konstantinos Tzagkarakis, the game introduces players to characters, stories, and values from Greek mythology in an interactive and educational format.

Kyriakidou said the selection carries deep emotional significance. “From the start, we didn’t want to simply make a game. We wanted to create a way of storytelling—a dialogue between today and stories that have followed us for thousands of years,” she said. “Being chosen as an official gift by the EOT moves us deeply, because it shows that our idea has found its purpose.”

The EOT’s choice reflects a broader strategy to present Greece as a country of experiences, where culture is a living, active part of modern identity. The game allows both children and adults to explore mythological tales, bringing ancient stories to life rather than treating them as static museum exhibits. Kyriakidou emphasized, “Greek mythology is alive. It has drama, humour, conflicts, and heroes with flaws. We want people to play it, experience it, and remember that these stories still speak to us today.”

The EOT team, including Secretary-General Andreas Fiorentino and staff members Eleni Mitraki and Efi Stylidiadi, highlighted that the game promotes Greek creativity and supports an emerging domestic company, K-TOYZ, founded in Thessaloniki in 2017. Co-creator Tzagkarakis said, “We started with a simple idea, few resources, and great love for what we did. Greece can export not only sun and sea but also ideas, values, and culture. Today, our product travels as an official gift worldwide, exceeding all our expectations.”

Greek Mythology is handcrafted entirely in Greece using recyclable, eco-friendly materials. Tzagkarakis stressed, “Domestic production is a way of life for us. It represents responsibility, quality, and respect for people and the environment.”

Kyriakidou added, “The most important thing is the message that travels with the game. Greek Mythology is not just an object. It invites people to experience Greece differently, connect with its stories, and understand why this culture continues to inspire. If even one person feels closer to Greece through this game, we have achieved our goal.”

Through Greek Mythology, Kyriakidou and Tzagkarakis demonstrate that games can serve as vessels of memory, knowledge, and cultural identity, showing the world that modern Greece still has many stories to share.
