Court Sentences Teacher for Sexual Harassment of Student

A court in Thessaloniki has sentenced a 56-year-old teacher to three years in prison, suspended for three years, for the sexual harassment of a young student. The Single-Member Misdemeanor Court found the educator guilty of abusing a minor and insulting sexual dignity.

The legal process began in March 2023 following a formal police complaint. The victim, who was 10 years old at the time, reported that the teacher fondled and kissed her during after-school hours at a primary school located east of Thessaloniki.

Authorities originally arrested the man under the "in flagrante delicto" (red-handed) procedure. After several postponements, the trial finally proceeded this week.

The defendant did not appear in person during the hearing. Instead, he chose to be represented by a defence attorney who formally denied all charges on his behalf. Despite the denial, the court upheld the allegations and delivered the three-year suspended sentence.
