Greek PMs Wife Mareva Mitsotaki Injured In Italy

Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotaki, the wife of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, suffered an accident in Italy on Saturday and underwent surgery at KAT Hospital in Athens.

The incident occurred during the couple’s trip to Milan for the opening ceremony of the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. She later travelled to Greece for medical treatment.

Doctors performed surgery on both of her hands. Emmanuel Fandridis, an NHS director at KAT Hospital and head of the Hand and Upper Limb Microsurgery Clinic, carried out the operation.

According to reports, her health condition remains good and she is staying in hospital to recover, with the prime minister by her side.

Mitsotakis travelled to Milan with his wife on Friday evening and attended the Olympic opening ceremony. He later posted a photograph of the couple from the Olympic Stadium, writing in a humorous caption, “This time it’s not raining,” in reference to the rainy Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

Italy’s President Sergio Mattarella officially declared the opening of the Milano–Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games during a colourful ceremony highlighting the country’s history, arts, and fashion, while political tensions also surfaced during the event.

Mattarella appeared to the public in a video showing him travelling through the city on one of Milan’s historic trams.

US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio were among those attending the ceremony at the iconic football stadium.
