French prosecutors charged a 79-year-old former teacher with aggravated rape and sexual assault involving 89 minors in a case spanning 1967 to 2022.
Authorities said the man, who was imprisoned in 2024, allegedly targeted victims aged 13 to 17 in France and abroad. The public prosecutor in Grenoble, Étienne Manteaux, said investigators linked the suspect to offences in Germany, Switzerland, Morocco, Niger, Algeria, the Philippines, India, Colombia and New Caledonia.
The justice system launched an appeal for witnesses after investigators identified the alleged victims through material stored on a USB drive. Prosecutors said the USB contained writings by the suspect describing sexual relations with minors.
According to Manteaux, the USB was discovered by the man’s nephew, who found it while looking into his uncle’s personal life.
During the investigation, the suspect also admitted to killing his mother and aunt, prosecutors said. He reportedly wrote in his “memoirs” that he deliberately caused both deaths.
He told investigators he smothered his mother with a pillow in the 1970s while she was dying from cancer. He also admitted smothering his 92-year-old aunt with a pillow in the 1990s, saying he killed her after she pleaded with him not to leave for Sénéb in southern France.
The suspect reportedly said he would want someone to do the same to him if he were in a similar end-of-life condition.
